Yooperlite Gargoyles

These yooperlite gargoyles pull triple duty with their beauty and lore! During the day, they share the beauty of gray, black, and red crystal formations. Yet, under the glow of a UV light, those red crystal regions light up a vibrant orange color. Also, the folklore surrounding gargoyles speaks of them as protectors of the buildings they rest upon. They are the perfect piece for a collector and they also work well with many styles of décor. We only have two of these handsome carvings. Get them before they're gone!

A Bit About Yooperlite

Yooperlite is a fluorescent syenite rock found in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, specifically in the Lake Superior region. You can also find it in other regions of the world as well. Its chemical composition includes sodalite, anorthoclase feldspar, and sometimes amphibole. Classified under sodalite-syenite, yooperlite exhibits a unique fluorescent response under UV light due to the presence of fluorescent minerals like sodalite. This phenomenon makes yooperlite a fascinating and visually striking choice for gemstone décor, especially when carved into gargoyles or other decorative pieces. 5. UV Notes: For gemstones, 365nm is the best for UV lighting. Only some specimens illuminate under the other part of this spectrum (370-400nm). This is why some pictures are not as clear for our UV reactive pieces. Our current lights are at 365nm, but used to be 395mm only. For home use, the 395nm is less expensive, but in some cases, will need a zoomed beam on the flashlight style UV lights. If you do use a 365nm light, please take care to use eye protection.
