Ocean jasper is actually orbicular jasper that is found along the northwest coast of Madagascar and other regions. It is known for its unique and colorful orb-like patterns, which can include many different colors. The most common are deep greens, white, red, and yellow. Some pieces of ocean jasper may appear translucent due to the presence of agate or quartz within the stone. Although, there are some that have noted jasper inclusions, much of the mineral is not found with jasper at all. Orbicular jasper is not an approved mineral species and is described as:

"Orbicular Jasper is a name given to a highly silicified rhyolite or tuff that has quartz and feldspar crystallized into radial aggregates of needle-like crystals forming orbicular (spherical) structures."
