Hypersthene is a member of the pyroxene mineral group and is technically part of the Enstatite-Ferrosilite series. According to mineralogical authorities, the name “hypersthene” has been discredited since 1988 by the CNMMN Pyroxene Subcommittee. As noted on mindat.org:
“An unnecessary name for a member of Enstatite-Ferrosilite series; name discredited by the CNMMN Pyroxene Subcommittee (1988).
Regarded as a synonym of enstatite or ferrosilite, but commonly regarded as a mid-way member between these two end-members. Most ‘hypersthene’ is ferroan enstatite.”

While the name “hypersthene” is still commonly used in the gem and jewelry trade, it is scientifically more accurate to refer to these beads as ferroan enstatite or as a mid-way member of the enstatite-ferrosilite series.
