Our trusted source for information outside of pure scientific research, Mindat.org, doesn't even offer much clarification at this time. We found this stone in the pictures of the listing for bloodstone at this link. However, they are also marked with question marks. Bloodstone, the traditional red and green form, is not an approved mineral species and has been known as heliotrope among others. Jasper is considered a rock subtype. However, both are considered forms of chalcedony which is a variety of quartz. Many websites proclaim to know the real chemical composition of African bloodstone, but we could not find scientific data on this. Given the data we have found, we could say that it is likely jasper and chalcedony, but we would have to note the difficulty in finding scientific data to back up said claim.
